Oceanside. Like being lakeside, except you're by the ocean. There's nothing better than being near the water, and Newport gave us the perfect opportunity to discover all things touristy in Rhode Island.
We started with a cliff walk, which is much less dangerous than I thought it was going to be. It was really just a paved walkway along the ocean front. Amazing views. And some spectacular looking people...don't we look beachy?
The cliff walk also included a gorgeous view of some of the mansions along the coast. All the privately owned houses were pretty well secluded...then we ran into these beauties. As it turned out, these were all mansions belonging to Salve Regina University. Woah.
We tried to put the enormous houses and entries into perspective by putting my dad next to them. We spent the day in the sunshine in tourist land- ducking in and out of shops and smelling of fish.
It was beautiful. When we were too hot to stand outside any longer, we found a local pub and grabbed a drink. Apparently having a Dark&Stormy is the east coast way, so we (almost) all joined in and drank our weight in rum.
If you go anywhere with my mom, then you know you have to "cheers" first.
Once it was time for our dinner reservations, we hit up the ocean side raw bar and had some seafood. It was my first time having lobster. It does not taste like chicken. The dinner view was not too shabby...
We ended the night with a final walk on the boardwalk while the sun was beginning to set.
I think I'd be good at owning a boat like one of these... maybe I should take up sailing.
