By the end of June I knew I would...
1. Have submitted components 1-3 for National Boards
2. Have wrapped up this school year and my first year in 3rd grade
3. Be taking a week+ road trip to San Fransisco
4. Be a happy homeowner once again
And now that it is July, I can say that ALL of those things have happened and I have spent one solid day at home being as lazy as possible to soak in this crazy month.
The events of the past month go as follows...
The weekend before school was out, we took a little weekend hike up Rattlesnake Ledge. I was trying really hard to avoid thinking about the last week responsibilities I had looming over me (mostly: report cards + classroom clean up).
That weekend, I also attended an oddly fascinating Sheepdog Classic where I learned that you can competitively train sheepdogs to herd sheep. It was strangely entertaining. Plus we got to take a ferry to Vashon Island. And I learned how to pronounce Vashon (it does not sound like "fashion", apparently). The short version of the sheepdog classic is that each dog gets 11 minutes to herd 4 sheep through a course and end with the sheep all in the pen. We were there for hours and saw 1 dog accomplish this goal (and they ran every 11 minutes).
My National Boards are submitted as of right now. I took my big test at the beginning of June, and submitted my two written/video components before that. My final component is not released until November, and I won't get scores for what I have completed until December. In other words, there is nothing I can do about it right now, or for the next few months and that is a beautiful, beautiful thing.
This school year is complete. I loved my students and they challenged me in all new ways this year. It was a solid learning year for me. This profession is constantly changing, as is each group of students in my class, and that means I'm constantly evolving as well. I was happy when this year was complete and ready for summer. However, I was "hired" in my district as a math lead for our new curriculum and attended a 4 day training a week after school was out. It was a ton of information, but I'm looking forward to a tiny leadership role this coming year. I am also attending a 4 day technology training in July before checking back in for another fun year in August.
I road tripped along the coast of Oregon and California to San Fransisco for a little over a week. It was a blast and I have tons of gorgeous pictures to share here on the good ol' blog in the next few posts.
And yes, I am a homeowner once again. The best part is, I didn't even have to move! I was informed a few months ago that the condo I'm renting would be put on the market and they gave me the option of moving out (in this ridiculously priced market) or possibly purchasing it. I don't know how I lucked out on this crazy Seattle adventure, but I ended up buying this little gem that I was so excited about renting two years ago. It added a bit of busy-ness to my already packed end of the school year schedule, but I managed to pull my paperwork together and make it happen in my free minutes. This includes an after-wine-tasting evening stop in Napa at a bank branch to wire funds in order to close on time, but it is DONE! My parents drove (yes, they drove) out here to help me paint every wall and make this place seriously mine. Now I have a little time to get it all put together how I want it.
I have had a few people message me lately asking for my new address, but my address is not changing. This is the best way to "move"!
Whew. So that's what's been happening with me lately.
